SUBMIT YOUR VIDEO CLIPS - MAKE EPIC FISHPORN
A handful of years ago a bunch of us were having the time of our lives, going on fly fishing adventures with good friends and capturing what we could on video. We would spend all year collecting footage and spent months editing it down to something that we felt captured the energy and excitement of our journeys - something that we wanted to watch. Something that got us fired up to go on our next fishing adventure.
The timing was unique. Technology was just starting to enable more amateur content creation, and it enabled many to capture things that many fishermen/women had never seen, and distribute that content very efficiently.
REMEMBER THIS?
The reaction to these videos was unexpected. Crowds of people would scream at F3T and Drake events. Online views grew exponentially. It brought true excitement, to some.
This is about the time that the format got labeled as “fishporn”, and began to be perceived negatively, by some.
Pretty soon, the internet was saturated with amateur Go Pro videos, and anglers around the world had now seen so much content, that showing an audience something new and unique became a real challenge, and the “fishporn” format faded from the limelight. At the time, some of us brainstormed an idea that we felt could add value to an otherwise stale format, but we never had the resources to act on it…
The “industry” was in a media shift, focused on a format with an emphasis on “story telling”, which seemed to always include somebody talking to a video camera about “why” they are doing what they are doing. This format is powerful, and today seems to be the gold standard of video production.
Now, increased production values, high end cameras, jibs, drones, and motion graphics are all the rage. People are traveling farther, and in some cases, doing whatever means necessary to get that next great shot. More effort is being put into fly fishing media, than there ever has been, yet it appears that the excitement, raw energy, and pure emotion both captured in the content as well as expressed by viewers is on the decline (the way we see it).
Are the days of the fly fishing film on the decline? Maybe. Is the general format of most new fly fishing films to blame our observations on? Perhaps. Is the quality of production removing an emotional component that viewers connect with? Could be.
Some of us think that it has more to do with the content on the screen than the actual format of the “film”. We can break down video footage into two types, A-roll and B-roll. B-roll footage is self explanatory and consists mostly of supplementary content. A-roll footage on the other hand is a complex bitch and is where the real value of the piece lies. A-roll footage is those moments, especially in outdoor sports, that most of us live for. Those epic moments of excitement, raw energy, and pure emotion that can’t be planned. Those unforgettable few seconds where nothing else in the world matters. Those few seconds of bliss that take a lot of luck and a bunch of passion and dedication to capture on video. The clips that “fishporn” is comprised mostly of. Those clips that rock the fucking house!
After completely over analyzing the situation, we came to a conclusion - the world needs more epic fishporn.
That time has come to once again rock the house and unleash the idea we had a handful of years ago…to collaborate with everyone we know and collect clips that we can edit into the most epic piece of fishporn the world has ever seen.
